Chapter Twelve

JAKKAR

My spirit mate melted at my hand for a second time. The scent of her awakened sex was intoxicating. I could stoke her desire for the whole of the dark hurs and never tire, but she looked exhausted, her eyes drooping with satisfaction.

"Rest now, nula." I held her close, tugging her garment back into place even though my cock was harder than the stone at my back. I brushed a kiss across her forehead. Her eyes leisurely closed, her lips parted slightly in her early repose.

The cave had grown quiet. Gentle snores from the women were mixed with the harsher breaths of my warriors. I carefully shifted my position inside the small, private nook to see the cave in its entirety.

I wasn't surprised to see Aggar asleep with his back to the gravity disruptor pod he'd converted into a luminetric barrier. New to all things tech, the warrior proved to be a quick study under Zikkar's tutelage. Like a nursling with a coveted toy, Aggar was fiercely protective of the equipment he built.

Vallon had bunked down near the pale-maned female, Layla as if to offer her his protection. I feared it would be some time before she fully recovered from the shock of her abduction. She reminded me of the mentally worn females fresh from the stresses of wars with the Nuttaki. Some had proved stronger than others. I was afraid that would be the case with the human females.

My Lily was strong. A natural leader. I took pleasure in watching her sleep. So lovely, yet so very different from a Valosian.

I wondered what my sire would think of me finding my spirit mate in another species—one from the stars. A place neither one of us looked favorably upon. My brother, Sakkar, was the only stargazer in my family.

My eyes were drawn to Rayyar. The traitor in our midst was stretched out on the cold ground at the back of the cave. He remained fully awake, staring me down as if he wanted nothing more than to cut my throat while I slept.

His eyes narrowed on Lily bundled in my arms. Given a chance, Rayyar would run to Sakkar and tell him of the females we found. The longer I pondered Lily's request to be returned home, the deeper I sank in distrust for my brother.

Sakkar proved to be a reckless ruler, and as Sia of Clan Huren, he could demand the females be handed over and kept inside the safety of the city's dome. I didn't trust him to keep them safe or fly them home.

As an exile, Sakkar was no longer my ruler. That wouldn't stop him from marching an army to my settlement and demanding I hand them over. I would never willingly give my spirit mate over to anyone.

Lily's request to be taken back to her home planet weighed heavily upon me. I wanted to do as she requested with every fiber of my being, but that would mean alerting Sakkar to the female's presence.
